Is it acceptable for a company to prepare its own register of members?

Section 40 of the Companies Act requires every company to keep a register of members which should display –

• Name and address of the members
• Detail of each member’s shareholding
• The date the individual/entity became a member
• The date the individual/entity ceased being a member
